3) The Pupils guide to the Hazard Perception Test.

The pupils official guide and video will soon be on sale in High Street shops for £12.99

The Video and workbook are designed to be used as part of a structured learning program. You will need to start using these at the same time as you start your practical driving lessons. It is recommended that you study for the Theory & Hazard Tests with your instructor as well as doing your own private study.

The video is presented by Suzi Perry and produced by the DSA

This new test has been developed to check your ability spot hazards as they appear while watching a selection of video clips.

Most new drivers will take about 2 seconds longer than an experienced driver to recognize dangers ahead. A hazard will result in you changing your speed, position, or both. The quicker you see the hazard the higher your pass score will be.

The new test will be taken at the same time as the current theory test. This will take about an extra 20 minutes. The DSA will be producing products to assist you with your preparation.

The test was planned for October 2002 but has now been delayed until the end of the year. Candidates will watch a series of video clips showing a number of hazards. Each clip will include at least one hazard. The video clips used will be changed annually.

Candidates will have to pass both the standard theory test and the Hazard Perception Test before they can apply for a practical car test.

The cost for the Hazard Perception Test is expected to add about £2.00 to the cost of the Theory Test (currently £15.50).
