Hide your car keys to reduce burglaries |

Detectives from Thames Valley Police are urging vehicle owners to hide their car keys amid growing concerns at the number of recent house burglaries, where car keys appear to have been the main target. In the latest incident a silver Citroen was stolen from outside an address in Windsor, after burglars who broke into the house found the keys. Two men have since been arrested in connection with the offence. DS Charlie Morrow, leader of the new Thames Forest Burglary Unit, said: "Car manufacturers have made it much more difficult for criminals to break into vehicles in recent years by fitting immobilisers and other security devices, so offenders are now breaking into houses and stealing car keys which have been left lying around, then making off in the vehicles. It would appear that Audi and Mercedes are in particular popular targets."We would urge people not to leave car keys lying in plain view anywhere in the home. If you must leave them in the house, make sure they are well hidden and help us to make life more difficult for the criminals." Consider having a tracking device fitted to your car so that in the event of your car being stolen the Police can quickly trace and recover your car. Nine years of success and 6,900 retrievals to its name prove that TRACKER works, returning your car with the minimum of time. With a vehicle stolen in the UK almost every minute, make sure your car is protected to ensure that if it is stolen, you get it back. If you don't, the average direct cost to you is £4700, even with fully comprehensive insurance. Operated by all of the UK's 52 police forces . |
