There might not be any doubts about the future of the British Grand Prix, but work on the roads around the circuit is still not finished. It is hoped that everything will be done in time for the British Grand Prix on July 7 2002.

The roads which feed into the circuit are currently being widened, this should allow improved traffic flow. The car parks are undergoing considerable surfacing work in the car parking areas inside the circuit. The work is also pushing ahead on the new A43 Silverstone bypass, which is being overseen by The Highways Agency.

"The Government is totally committed in trying to get the Silverstone bypass up and running in time for the Grand Prix," said a spokeswoman for the Highway Agency. "Ministers recognize the importance of the event on the economy."

The additional money comes from the Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions.

The work on the A43 dualling began in February 2001 linking the M40 J10 to the M1 Northampton.

The contract, worth £56.6 million, was awarded to the Costain Skanska UK Joint Venture in November 2000, and the works will be complete during the summer of 2002. The project incorporates three schemes in the A43 included in the Government's Targeted Programme of Improvements (TPI), They are the Silverstone Bypass and the Whitfield Turn to Brackley Hatch dualling, both in Northamptonshire, and the M40 (Junction 10) to B4031 Improvement, most of which is in Oxfordshire. These improvements will create a much safer situation for all road users, reducing congestion and removing conflict along this busy strategic route, whilst providing a quieter environment for the communities of Silverstone, Syresham and the other villages.

Northamptonshire Police are warning motorists about a temporary 40mph speed limit which has been put in place during road works on the A43 for the construction of the A43 Towcester to M40 Dualling Scheme. The 40mph limit runs for about eight miles on the A43 from the Whitfield turn, through the villages of Syresham and Silverstone to the Abthorpe roundabout just before Towcester. The 40mph limit also applies to the stretch of dual-carriageway that runs past the Green Man public house near Syresham. The temporary speed limit has been authorised by the Highways Agency (which manages the road) in conjunction with Northamptonshire Police in the interests of safety of motorists and of course the workmen on this site.

COSTAIN SKANSKA UK JV Project Offices are situated on the A43 at Pimlico, Brackley Northamptonshire NN13 5TN
