Kenyan cyclists caught training on Motorway |

Two Kenyan cyclists George Ochieng and Arthur Kamu found themselves in trouble with the police after they were found on the M60 near Bolton practising for the Commonwealth Games. The men were stopped by Inspector Chris Burrows of Greater Manchester Police's Motorway Traffic Unit as they cycled along the M60 after many motorists had reported the bikes racing along the hardshoulder. Police told the Kenyans that cyclists were forbidden from using motorways. A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said. "We understand that this was a genuine mistake and have asked organisers to speak to team officials about the relevant restrictions," Inspector Burrows said: "I couldn't quite believe my eyes. They reached speeds of 40mph. "They were dressed in full training kit and did not seem to have a care in the world. Both spoke good English and were very surprised they could not cycle along the motorway. "They said they had looked at a map and the motorway was the best big road to reach Bolton. Obviously it is a very unusual incident, but also a very serious one." Police escorted the pair off the motorway on to the A6 for their return journey back to the athletes village in Manchester. Motorways MUST NOT be used by pedestrians, holders of provisional car or motorcycle driving licences unless exempt, riders of motorcycles under 50cc, **cyclists** and horse riders. Certain slow-moving vehicles and those carrying oversized loads (except by special permission), agricultural vehicles and most invalid carriages are also prohibited.
