Major Roadworks in Banbury Town Centre |
Work is due to start in Banbury's town centre on Wednesday 14th of August to improve the environment for cyclists and pedestrians. Traffic (including disabled badge holders) will not be allowed access to the High Street, Broad Street and Butchers Row between 10am and 4:30pm. Cherwell District Council will be handing out leaflets during the next few weeks explaining the new regulations.
Councillor Fred Blackwell, Portfolio Holder for Development, comments: “We were receiving many complaints about the danger to pedestrians from the high level of vehicles allowed access to the High Street. After extensive public consultation and a public inquiry, the Council is implementing the new order which I believe will deal with these issues and in parallel we are creating more parking spaces in the town centre for drivers with disabilities.” Further details can be obtained from Paul Pinkney on 01295 221843, David Best on 01295 221589 or Sarah McAllister/Carolyn Pepler on 01295 221873. Cherwell District Council, Bodicote House, Banbury, Oxfordshire.
